Portable Toilet Cleaning: How to Keep Your Porta Potty Clean

Cleaning Portable Toilets: How To Keep Your Porta Potty Clean

Portable toilets, or porta potties, are a necessity for outdoor events, job sites, and areas without public restroom accommodations. They can be a true lifesaver for your guests, but in order to make a positive impression, they need to be kept clean.

In this guide, we’ll be discussing how the cleaning process works, and how you can make sure that your portable toilet is kept clean.

Keep in mind: the cleaning process should absolutely be left to the professionals. If you are not a trained sanitation professional, we do not recommend cleaning porta potties on your own.

How To Clean A Porta Potty

Step 1: Evacuate The Waste

Before anything can be done, we must get rid of the waste in the holding tank. We have a special tool that we use to evacuate the waste from our porta potties. It consists of a vacuum hose which is attached to a pump. We then collect this waste via sanitation truck and send it directly to a wastewater treatment facility.

Step 2: Charge The Unit

Charging the unit is our term for adding our special odor control substance. You might recognize it as the blue liquid in the porta potty. We add five gallons of this substance. It starts off blue, but turns green as the porta potty is used.

Step 3: Scrub The Walls

After we’ve taken care of the toilet bowl, we need to make sure the rest of the porta potty is clean. We do this by scrubbing the walls with disinfectant to eliminate germs.

Step 4: Restock Sanitation Supplies

Without hand sanitizer and toilet paper, a porta potty is not nearly as clean as it should be. For this reason, we make sure to restock the supplies that were used.

Order Enough Units For Your Guests

Nothing is worse than the smell of a single porta potty after being used by hundreds of people at the end of the day. If you have a big event, you cannot afford to have too few units. This not only results in a bad experience, such as people waiting in line for the potty, but it can also result in a porta potty that is simply too dirty to be acceptable. Our recommendation is one unit per 100 guests.

Make Sure You Have Enough Sanitary Products

If your porta potty is being used too often, it will eventually become dirty. Make sure that there’s enough soap and toilet paper available for guests to use to prevent the spread of germs. The porta potty should not be the only source of sanitary products, either. At your event, you should also make sure that people have access to hand sanitizer when necessary so they don’t have to visit the porta potty just to clean their hands.

Consult The Professionals

At the end of the day, sanitation should be left to the pros. When you order a portable toilet from Quick Relief Solutions in Atlanta, you can be sure that your portable toilet will be clean and sanitary for all your guests.
